Yankee Equipment Systems, Inc. and a few hundred of its friends celebrated the Laundromat industry at Yankee’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Show. The Show held recently at the Westin Hotel in Waltham MA featured the latest equipment offerings from Speedqueen, the Show’s main sponsor, as well as ESD, Hamilton Engineering, Vendrite, Standard Changemakers, CCI, Natco, American Changer, Pellerin Milnor, Setomatic, JYS Solutions, and Rowe. In addition, Aristocraft and Package Supply provided well stocked supply displays.  Alliance Laundry Systems Finance, Eastern Funding, and Glacial Energy informed the attendees about their respective programs.
Education has always been a key component of the Show. This year was no exception. The theme of the Show this year was “Time to Raise Your Revenue”. Brian Wallace, President and CEO of the Coin Laundry Association, conducted two largely attended seminars: “10 Secrets for Promoting Your Laundry Now” and  “Tomorrow’s Self-Service Laundries”. Chris Balestracci, owner Super Wash in East Haven Ct, President of NECLA and former CLA Board member spoke about “ Ways to Raise Revenue” and Brendan Ristaino, Yankee Customer Service , spoke on social media to a  host of store owners.

At the annual Show banquet Bill Bittner, National Sales Manager for Speedqueen, explained the many initiatives Speedqueen is expanding this year to ensure its leadership as the highest quality producer of Laundromat equipment in the industry. These initiatives include a 35% increase in personnel slated for Design Engineering, the ALSU certification program for distributor sales and service representatives, the continuing quality improvement efforts through Kaizen programs and the Accelerated Life Test Lab at Speedqueen. Peter Limoncelli, Executive Vice-President and an owner of Yankee, spoke of the latest trends in the industry that can help increase sales. Among the trends discussed by Limoncelli were Credit card readers on washers, check cashing services, Groupon, adding commercial laundry services and revenue splitting on large capacity machines. Ted Ristaino, President and an owner of Yankee, urged everyone to go on the offensive in their business by reaching out to their customers. The benefits of CLA membership were also stressed. Limoncelli and Ristaino commented on the tremendous commitment of the store owners, suppliers, and CLA to the industry by virtue of their attendance and thanked them all.
“The networking, education, and relationship building of this event cannot be overstated. It is tremendous.” Ristaino remarked. Limoncelli agreed commenting “It is very gratifying to renew friendships every year and welcome new friends to this great industry.”
